What to Buy First in GTA Online in 2026: The Right Order for Your Budget

In 2026, buy what is cheap and pays back fast first: the Acid Lab (the truck is free after the First Dose missions, setup costs around 750,000 GTA$), funded by the Cluckin' Bell Farm Raid, which requires no purchase at all. Next comes the Agency (from 2,010,000 GTA$) or the Kosatka (2,200,000 GTA$), depending on whether you prefer contracts or heists. The Nightclub comes after that, and the Mansion comes last.
What changed in 2026 before you buy anything?
Two updates change the buying order you could read everywhere until 2025.
- The Mansions (update 1.72, December 10, 2025): three properties between 11.5 and 12.8 million GTA$. They speed up production in your businesses, but they earn nothing on their own.
- The Kortz Center Heist (update 1.73, July 14, 2026): you launch it from an Art Studio added to a Mansion. The same update lowered the Cayo Perico target values and added a first-completion-of-the-week bonus on thirteen heists and mission series.
The direct result: the Kosatka is no longer the "obvious" buy everyone used to recommend. The tequila, the most common primary target at Cayo Perico, pays 400,000 GTA$ in normal mode, down from 630,000 before the update, according to GameRant and GTA BOOM. The Agency's Dr. Dre contract went from 1,000,000 to 900,000 GTA$, with a bonus of 1,099,800 GTA$ for the first completion of the week, according to GTA Boss.
I am starting with less than a million: where do I begin?
With little money, the goal is to avoid spending on things that produce nothing. Two activities need almost no investment.
The Cluckin' Bell Farm Raid (free)
Six missions you can play solo, no property required. According to Timesaver (September 10, 2026), the finale pays 600,000 GTA$ the first time each week and 400,000 GTA$ after that, plus two one-time bonuses of 250,000 GTA$ (one as leader, one as a crew member). It is the best way to put together your first million.
The Acid Lab (almost free)
Finish the six First Dose missions and you get the Brickade 6x6 truck that houses the lab. You then pay for the setup, 750,000 GTA$ according to Timesaver (September 12, 2026), followed by the equipment upgrade (250,000 GTA$), unlocked after ten Fooligan jobs. A full upgraded stock sells for around 335,000 to 352,000 GTA$ according to the same source. The lab has no daily fees and its sales are easy to do alone. Everything is covered in our Acid Lab guide.
Do these two steps in order and you reach your next purchase without touching a Shark Card. The details of that first evening are in our guide how to start GTA Online in 2026.
Agency or Kosatka: which should you buy first?
This is the real question for your second purchase. Both cost a little over 2 million and can be played solo. What sets them apart is the way you play.
| Criterion | Agency | Kosatka (Cayo Perico) |
|---|---|---|
| Purchase price | 2,010,000 to 2,830,000 GTA$ | 2,200,000 GTA$ |
| Headline payout | Dr. Dre contract: 900,000 GTA$ (1,099,800 the first time each week) | Tequila 400,000, necklace 560,000, bonds 616,000, pink diamond 910,000 GTA$ (normal mode), plus secondary loot |
| Pace | Short Security Contracts and Payphone Hits, available often | 144 real-time minutes of cooldown between two solo Cayo runs |
| Passive income | Safe fills up to 20,000 GTA$ per in-game day, after about 200 Security Contracts | None |
| Practical bonus | Access to Imani Tech upgrades | The Sparrow (an extra 1,815,000 GTA$), very handy for the preps |
Sources: GTA Boss (Agency, July 13, 2026; Dr. Dre contract), GTA BOOM (Cayo Perico, August 17, 2026), Console Pulse (Kosatka and Sparrow, September 7, 2026). The Cayo payouts are the ones published after update 1.73.
Our take: pick the Agency if you play in short sessions, because its missions are short and it pays you even when you are not playing. Pick the Kosatka if you like heists and can fit one Cayo run into an evening. The full heist breakdown is in our Cayo Perico solo guide.
What should you do with the 4 million from the Career Builder?
On PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC (Enhanced edition), a new character can go through the Career Builder: 4,000,000 GTA$ to spend on one of four careers (Executive, Gunrunner, Nightclub Owner or Biker). You only keep 1,000,000 GTA$ at most for later, and the offer is available only once per account, according to Rockstar Support.
The pick most guides recommend is the Gunrunner: a Bunker plus its equipment upgrade, which gives you an income source right away that keeps running while you do other things. GTA BOOM, for example, suggests the Chumash Bunker (1,650,000 GTA$) with an upgrade package, while keeping close to the full million you are allowed. With that million, aim for the Kosatka or the Agency next.
What buying order fits your budget?
Here is a typical path, designed for a player who mostly plays alone. Amounts are base prices before discounts.
| Available budget | Recommended purchase | Why |
|---|---|---|
| 0 to 1 million | Acid Lab (750,000 setup) and its upgrade (250,000) | Income with no daily fees, easy solo sales |
| 2 to 3 million | Agency (from 2,010,000) or Kosatka (2,200,000) | One big profitable mission per week, plus short activities |
| 3 to 5 million | Bunker (from 1,165,000, better placed at Chumash for 1,650,000) then its upgrades (1,155,000 for equipment, 598,500 for staff) | Steady production that runs in the background |
| 5 to 8 million | Nightclub (1,080,000 to 1,700,000 depending on location) and its technicians | It sells goods from your other businesses without resupplying |
| 8 million and up | Auto Shop, Salvage Yard (from 1,620,000) or another business you enjoy | More variety in short activities |
| 16 million and up | Mansion (11,500,000 for the cheapest) and Art Studio (4,700,000) | Access to the Kortz Center and faster production |
Sources: GTABase (Bunkers, Mansions), GTA BOOM (Kortz Center, July 28, 2026), Timesaver (Nightclub and Salvage Yard), research from September 23, 2026. The Bunker and Nightclub locations change the price, not the payout; mostly, they change your travel times.

What should you not buy right away?
- Luxury cars and bikes: they are fun, they earn nothing. Wait until you have two businesses running.
- The Mansion: its value depends on what you already own. With no businesses to speed up, it is a very expensive garage.
- Several businesses at once: every business takes time to sell. Two businesses you actually empty are worth more than five that overflow.
- Military vehicles bought "for peace of mind": useful later, but they cost as much as a business.
I am coming back after a break: what should I buy again?
If you already have an account, start by taking stock. Many returning players own a Bunker, a Nightclub or a Kosatka without really knowing it. Then look at the three newer additions you may be missing: the Acid Lab (2022), the Agency (2021, often absent from accounts that stopped before then) and the Cluckin' Bell Raid (free). The Mansion can wait.
If you played on PS4 or Xbox One, also remember to bring your progress over to your new console: it has been free since June 2026, see our guide to transferring your character.
What if I want a plan built for my account?
The order above suits most solo players. It does not account for what you already own, how much time you have each week, or what you enjoy doing. If you want a custom buying plan, that is exactly what WantedWise 1v1 coaching is for: we look at your account together and set the order of your next purchases. And if you would rather go it alone, the "First 5 purchases" chapter of the ebook walks through the path budget by budget.
FAQ
What is the very first thing to buy in GTA Online?
If you are starting from zero, nothing expensive: play the First Dose missions to get the Acid Lab, then pay for its setup (750,000 GTA$ according to up-to-date guides). The Cluckin' Bell Farm Raid is free and covers a good part of that cost.
Is the Kosatka still worth it after the July 2026 cuts?
Yes for a solo player who enjoys heists, but it pays less than before: the most common target, the tequila, dropped to 400,000 GTA$ in normal mode. The Kosatka is still useful, it is just no longer the obvious buy it was in 2021.
Should you buy a Mansion when you are just starting?
No. A Mansion costs 11.5 to 12.8 million GTA$, and the Kortz Center Heist also needs an Art Studio at 4.7 million. It is an endgame purchase, for when your businesses are already running.
Agency or Nightclub first?
The Agency first. It earns on its own, thanks to the Dr. Dre contract and Security Contracts. The Nightclub only produces goods from the other businesses you already own.
